Printing and reaping success:  Success Story of Mudra Printing Press

In 2009, six vibrant women got a General Orientation Training (GOT) from Kudumbashree Mission. That was indeed a turning point in their life. They started a printing press unit and named it as ‘Mudra Printing press’ at Mooppainad CDS in Wayanad district of Kerala. They availed Rs. 8 lakhs loan from State Bank of India at Kalpetta with Rs.3 lakh subsidy. But unfortunately they didn’t get any work order. That time Kudumbashree Wayanad District Mission helped them, by giving any work from any CDS. They gradually improved their business. Two member left and also 2 boys joined as per Yuva shree scheme.

One day one employee’s hand got stuck into the machine and lost 4 fingers. All other members help them economically and mentally. As a result, now that employer is working with them. But another big disaster affected them in the form of rain. Heavy rainfall affected the unit very badly. They lost their machinery, raw materials and building collapsed. That time also, Kudumbashree Mission helped them to get back to their activity. In the beginning the average employee salary was Rs.2500 per month. Now the situation had improved and the salary was increased to Rs.6000 per month.  It is hence proved that they are rebuilding their business with self-confidence.

Shyla (President), Sumathi (Secretary), Ashika, Sabitha, Remya, Unnikrishnan and Sumesh are the members of this unit. They believe that team work, support from Kudumbashree Mission and getting bulk work order from Kudumbashree Mission are the reasons for their success. Lack of regular work order, lack of updating new technologies and increasing competition were the challenges faced by them while running their micro enterprise unit. For them, getting bulk work order from Kudumbashree District Mission marked the turning point in their business. Make business sustainable and to start flex printing are their future plans in their business is their future plan.

The members were really happy to contribute to economical part of their family. The team also made visits different tourist places in Wayanad. For them, moments when they are working together is the happiest moment in their lives. Choosing and starting the right enterprise at the right time really matters. The success story of the Mudra Printing Press can be considered a better epitome of practical wisdom. By successfully running Mudra Printing Press, the micro entrepreneurs of Kudumbashree Mission had proved that they can succeed in any industry.  What matters most is the aptitude, determination and self-confidence to make the dreams real!
