Dr. Mrutyunjay Sarangi started as a young IAS probationer on 12th July 1977and had a long journey of forty one years with government and the judiciary. Dr. Sarangi has spent half of his career in Tamilnadu and the other half serving the Government of India with a break of five years in between on study leave to complete a Ph.D. program in Demography at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. During the era of liberalization in early 1990s, Dr. Sarangi was a Director in the Ministry of Power in New Delhi.
Dr. Sarangi was with the Election Commission of India for eight years and with the Delimitation Commission, before joining as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat in July 2008. He retired from Government of India in September 2013 as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment and joined as a Member in Central Administrative Tribunal, Mumbai Bench immediately after that. After superannuation from CAT, he has decided to settle in Bhubaneswar, his home town.
