Dr. Sarangi's Message

Friends,
Welcome to PositiveVibes.Today.

This website is being launched with a hope that it will make a difference to the way people look at what is happening around them. On any given day when we open the newspapers in the morning or switch on the TV channels we see a lot of negative news. Most of us are appalled by the amount of venomous negativity that stares at us in the print, visual or social media. It often leaves us wondering why in a country of 1.36 billion people we find only incidents of rape, murder, fraud, embezzlement, agitations or mud-slinging as worth reporting. How about the innumerable good deeds done by government servants, NGOs, Self Help Groups, Corporates and public-spirited individuals? Why don't they get reported with the same zeal as the sordid tales of crimes and other misdeeds? Is it because good deeds excite us less?

Friends, on 21st September I demitted office as Member, Central Adminstrative Tribunal on attaining the age of sixty five years. Starting as a young IAS probationer on 12th July 1977, it has been a long journey of forty one years for me with government and the judiciary. Reaching Mussourie for the first time on that foggy morning in 1977, I tried to discover myself in a new environment, a new career and amongst new friends. In the later years every time I went back to the Academy as a Guest Faculty, I relived those splendid moments of bubbling hopes and dazzling aspirations. I used to look at the young probationers of different services and was happy to see the same zeal, enthusiasm and positivity that my cohort used to share way back in 1977.

My journey has been eventful, with the usual share of bouquets and brickbats, joy and disappointment, but like most of my colleagues I have never wavered from the goal of common good and have always remained a public servant rather than a pretentious bureaucrat. I spent half my career in Tamilnadu and the other half serving the Government of India, taking a break of five years in between on study leave to complete a Ph.D. program in Demography at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. I retired from Government of India in September 2013 as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment and joined as a Member in Central Administartive Tribunal, Mumbai Bench immediately after that. I have decided to settle in Bhubaneswar, my home town, after my recent superannuation from CAT.

As I start a new chapter in my life, I have dedicated myself to a new Mission. I have launched this website PositiveVibes.Today to record positive thoughts and deeds that inspire and rekindle the spirit of hope and optimism. Let me make it clear that this site is not meant for any particular groups or service. It is open to everyone –from top government officials in Delhi or Trivandrum to a Municipal clerk in Thrithuraipoondi or Pehelgam, from corporate CEOs in Mumbai to a PDS salesman in Siligudi or an Anganwadi worker in Kalahandi. Any individual who wants to chronicle a good deed she has done or knows to have been done can record it in this site, preferably accompanied by a few photographs or a video clip.

This site is not for negative reports nor for criticism simply for the sake of criticizing. Analytical criticism of schemes, policies and action are welcome only if they are a prelude to positive suggestions. This site is also not for those who want to give vent to their anger and frustrations through venomous outpourings or obnoxious, objectionable or scurrilous writings.

This site is intended to spread positive vibes, and thereby to inspire and motivate, to glorify and celebrate. I invite everyone who has access to the internet to join us in a collective initiative to generate positive vibes, to celebrate the undying spirit of India. Records of good action and kind deeds are welcome, as also articles on government policies and programmes and constructive suggestions on nation-building. Inspiring stories, anecdotes and reminiscences on relevant issues will undoubtedly enrich this site. Readers are invited to send them in large numbers, and also contribute articles of contemporary relevance (ideally around three-four pages). Retired and senior officials are requested to send their reminiscences which can inspire the readers. I propose to prepare a weekly summary of the suggestions received from the readers and send it to the PMO, the Cabinet Secretariat and the Niti Ayog.

Friends, I am aware that I have started an ambitious journey to be traversed in your august company. It is being launched to make a difference, with a hope that the positive vibes from this site will generate constructive action to make our country better. I would love to see this site being used by citizens from all walks of life to dream of a beautiful India, resplendent with a proud past, a vibrant present and a bright future.
