Kudumbashree - Success Story of Royal Honey

Smt. Rekha Mohan, hailing from Thennivila from Kalanjoor Panchayath of Pathanamthitta district of Kerala was gifted by a sweet success by her own Kudumbashree Micro Enterprise.  Rekha had started a honey producing unit along with 10 other members as part of Kudumbashree Mission’s Samagra Programme, an approach that had been a strategy in enterprise promotion. But during 2014, she had to take up the charge of the enterprise of her own.  From then, she is running this venture in the name ‘Royal Honey’.  She holds the full support of Saphalyam Neighborhood group, of which she is a member. All the members of Saphalyam NHG is extending sole support to Rekha.

How Royal Honey works?

Rekha is using about 75 honey bee hives in her neighborhood as well as in her friend’s places for her apiculture business.  She is earning an average of more than Rs 6000, every month as her income.

Kudumbashree had given training and the services of resource persons, who are experts in the apiculture sector and the needed tools for apiculture business to Rekha and her other group members as part of the Samagra Programme. Along with this, she had also got training from the members of Marthandam Honey Project, the Marthandam Beekeepers Co-operative Society which is recognized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission and certified by Khadi & Village Industries Board during 2010.  Even though her team members stepped back from the venture, she decided to move forward of her own. 

Rekha is selling her product ‘Royal Honey’ through the various sales fairs organized by Kudumbashree and onam markets etc.  She was even able to produce around 1000 kg of honey during 2015. As the production of honey is seasonal according to climatic conditions, when the unprecedented floods hit Kerala during August 2018, her venture was also affected. Even though, she is moving forward with sheer confidence.

Her family consists of her husband, who runs a watch repairing shop and their two kids.  Her family provides sole support for her to run her venture.

Royal Honey could be considered as an epitome of unaltered will power and confidence. With a gradual yet steady growth, Royal Honey had proved that belief in one’s self could take anyone to greater success. This Micro entrepreneur is indeed tasting her success now!
