Making Ayurveda Products and  earning monthly income of Rs 1 lakh: Success Story of Athira Herbal Products

There is a woman entrepreneur from Kudumbashree Mission who makes Ayurveda products, sell the same and make income of more than Rs 1 lakh a month.  Smt. Bindhu Prabullakumar hailing from Pallichal of Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala is that entrepreneur who sells Ayurveda products and earns such a huge income. ‘Athira Herbal Products’ the micro enterprises unit started by her makes jam, squash, syrup, nutrient food, payasam etc. using the medicinal plant- Brahmi. She is also making hair tone, face pack and thali powder using Ayurveda medicinal plants. Bindhu is the active member of Aishwarya Neighborhood group.

Evolution of Athira Herbal Products

Bindhu had studied Sanskrit language as main during her graduation. And so she had got an opportunity to Ayurveda books written in Sanskrit language.  This was a turning point in the life of Bindhu, daughter of Shri. Sadashivan and Smt. Sukeshiniamma who lived in Poojappura of Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.  

Bindhu stepped into the business by making hair oil. The hair oil was named after her name Athira. The hair tone was launched as a solution for hair lose, greying of hair and dandruff. Her relatives and neighbors bought the hair tone and gave good reviews about the same.  

Later, Bindhu visited Kudumbashree Office at Thiruvananthapuram and she got all the support for launching her own Micro Enterprise. She also secured the permission to take part in the exhibition conducted by Kudumbashree Mission, at St. Mary’s School, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the tenth anniversary celebrations of Kudumbashree Mission. She became the centre of attraction of the exhibition. All the 36 bottles she had prepared for participating in the exhibition was sold out in no time. After that, everything happened in fast pace.  She started the micro enterprise ‘Athira Herbal Products’ with the full support of Kudumbashree Mission.

Bindhu’s products are for sale at two shops of Horticorp, Agro Super Market, Welgate, Pothys and Supplyco Super Markets. The products are also being sent to outside of the district as well.  Smt. Latha, Smt. Usha, Smt. Sindhu and Smt. Sunitha are working in Bindhu’s ‘Athira Herbal Products’ unit. They are given a salary of Rs 6000 every month.

With the success of her micro enterprise, Bindhu had made her dream come true.  She succeeded in owning a home of her own. Her micro enterprise unit which was functioning in a rented building is now shifted to her own building, which is built next to her home. Her husband owns a watch repairing shop at Arikadamukku junction. The products of ‘Athira Herbal Products’ and other products of Kudumbashree Mission us for sale along with his shop.  A sales outlet of Aishwarya Kudumbashree neighborhood group functioning under the leadership of Bindhu.

Started as a small venture the success that ‘Athira Herbal Products’ had attained is mind blowing. ‘Athira Herbal Products’ could be considered as an epitome of unaltered will power and confidence. With a gradual yet steady growth, ‘Athira Herbal Products’ had proved that belief in their selves could take anyone to greater success.
