Making curry powders and ensuring better sales: Success Story of Swathi Curry Powder Unit

Evolution of Swathi Curry Powder unit

Swathi Curry Powder unit was started during 2004 jointly by Smt. Devaki, Smt. Sony Devassia, Smt. Nisha Saji, Smt. Lalitha and Smt. Sharadha. They are the members of the Priyadarshini Neighbourhood group of Nenmeni Grama Panchayath. All the members of the unit have equal shares in the enterprise. The production unit is set at Smt. Devaki’s land. Swathi Curry powder unit was started with a project cost of Rs. 5,00,000.

Initially the unit was started by manufacturing and marketing only masala powders and curry powder products. Initially they adopted door to door delivery method and during 2008, they purchased a van for their product delivery.  As they began getting wide acceptance for their products among the customers, they also increased their product range. Apart from the members, they also appointed five staff on daily wages basis. During this time, Swathi Curry Powder unit had also acquired ISO certification.

Mrs. Devaki is a strong empowered woman with many futuristic ideas. She is the backbone of Swathi Curry powder unit. According to her, if a strong desire and a strong mind is there, the way to success will open by somebody.

Now, Swathi Curry Powder unit is manufacturing around 60 varieties of products. As the need for their products increased they bought another van for the smooth delivery of their products. Now they have two vehicles of their own for distributing their products. They are marketing their products mainly un Wayanad and a district in Tamil Nadu. The raw materials for the products are purchased from Mysore, Tamil Nadu. The product is of high demand in Gudallur as well.
