THRUST 1-CHAPTER 5
Rohith V Rahul
I took my time to process what the letter contained.
This was a choice that wasn’t easy. On one hand, I could see my family, or on the other, I could never see them again.
I also decided to take leave from my job for 3 days, thinking it was for the better.
I had seen the letter many times before but never realized to do one thing—check behind it.
Wait, I had checked behind it. Of course, there was nothing there, as usual.
But this time, it was different.
There were words. No... an address?
973567 East COMO, Sonwariya Lane, City Block A, Alhadgar
Underneath it was a different stamp, almost like an appointment date.
27th 7:00
Token Number: 1088
It was near me, only a couple of minutes' worth of driving to get there.
That date was tonight and the time was only 30 minutes until 7.
I had to rush, and rush I did.
I got dressed and headed out to my garage, got in my TerrainMachine VJ, and pulled out.
Driving as fast as I could, using my knowledge of my city, I finally reached my destination.
Getting out of my car, many things were clear.
The building was an old warehouse of some sort. It was rusty as heck.
As I got into the building, one thing became apparent to me. It had no guards... hmm, how strange.
That floor was empty. The only thing it had was an elevator that looked surprisingly like it had been well maintained.
As I got near it, there was a sign that said "1st Floor," and underneath that, there was a button.
Naturally, doing what every human being does, I pressed the button.
I expected the elevator doors to open and allow me inside, not a screen to come out of nowhere—and that’s exactly what happened.
On it, a question was there:
"Pick two colours."
Underneath the question, there was a table showing almost every colour in the world.
I thought and thought, and I inputted almost every colour I could think of—grey and black, white and brown, and so on.
Until I thought of the thing that had caused me to come here—the letter.
It was black with gold patterns on it. This was my last chance.
With that, I inputted the colour black and, a moment later, the colour gold.
On the screen, the word "SUCCESS" illuminated brightly with a green background.
With that, the screen went away, and the elevator door opened, letting me in.
The elevator was very simple. It had a screen and some buttons for the floors.
There were buttons from UP1 to UN1 to UN8.
As I was about to press a button, a ding rang through the elevator.
Now the floor UN2 was lit up with an orange glow.
A couple of seconds later, a loud DING came into the small, cramped space of the elevator as the elevator door suddenly opened.
It opened smoothly, something that caught me off guard a bit.
But that elevator wasn’t the main highlight. Rather, it was the room it opened up to.
Looking like something straight out of science fiction, it was dark—very dark—but that was expected since there were no lights.
But what was strange was that there were windows, and from those windows, sunlight was shining inside. And I don’t mean some artificial stuff. No, I mean real, pure sunlight that you would experience on a nice evening walk.
But even though there was sunlight shining through the windows, the room was still dark.
It truly was a very special place in the world, or at least I think it is.
But to me, what was the most fascinating was that I was underground—or at least I think I was, because this floor was called "UN2," and the UN stood for "Underground."
While I was busy observing, I didn’t notice a lady had come right up to me.
She was in her 20s, that was clear, and also wore a black jacket along with a uniform. I couldn’t see which colour it was due to the blinding darkness.
"Hello, sir. You must be Hrithik. Agent ____ called you here, am I right?"
"Yes, he did call me here."
"So, have you finalized the decision?"
"The decision which can either make you a dead man or allow you to live happily ever after?"
The truth was, I had. I had thought about it from day and night, from dark to bright, from lunch to dinner.
I had thought about the effects and implications of them, not only their effect right now but also in the future.
But for me, the answer was very simple
