One of the biggest threats to human civilisation is the use of plastic and polythene. I had the pleasure of visiting Himachal Pradesh six months back. I was amazed to see a complete absence of polythene bags throughout the state. Even in the remotest villages one cannot find a polythene bag in any shop.

The people have happily adopted the government policy of banning this dangerous non-biodegradable product. In contrast, although Odisha has officially banned it from October 1st, the ban is only on paper. Polythene is still freely used everywhere.

We are slowly and steadily gravitating towards self-destruction by using a product which kills the soil and chokes the water sources. The accompanying video offers one of the many alternatives available. Let’s hope good sense prevails before it is irretrievably late.
