Dr. Sarangi's vibes - 10-10-2018
Friends,
You will be happy to know that the New Indian Express has started a daily feature from 8th October under the name “Changemakers Who Set Their Benchmarks on Humanity”. This new initiative is a harbinger of positive vibes and is bound to inspire the innumerable readers of the newspaper. We welcome it with abundant joy and enthusiastic hopes.
Indian sports have come of age in the last few years and as our medal tally at the recently concluded Asiad shows our sportspersons are making waves in international meets. We still have a long way to go, but their spectacular achievements do generate positive vibes for the nation. Mr. Raj Kishore Mishra, a retired civil servant who is an avid sports enthusiast has sent a comprehensive report on India’s achievers. Of particular interest are the sportspersons who have fought great odds to rise to the pinnacles of sporting glory.
A video clip of Heptathelete Swapna Barman’s family watching their daughter winning gold for India is heart-warming. Watch the reaction of her mother. It is priceless. From such sterling qualities are our achievers nurtured!
At another level please watch the video clip on astonishing sportsmanship. In 2003 in a game between Denmark and Iran, an Iranian player mistook a whistle from the crowd as being the refree’s half time signal and picked the ball up with his hands in the penalty area. The referee gave Denmark a penalty kick, but following consultation with Danish national coach Morten Olsen, the player Morten Wieghorst missed the penalty on purpose as a token of fair play and Denmark lost the game 0-1. But that is not the end of the story! Weighhorst received the Olympic Committee Fir Play award.
Friends, when I watched the video clip for the first time, I had goose bumps when the penalty shot was kicked wide off the goalpost. Please let the readers know how you feel about the incident.
Happy vibes!
Mrutyunjay Sarangi
