THE YELLOW FLOWER
Anura Parida
A flower hasn’t got ego lifting its head,
Nor pride to make it weigh gold.
Merrily it is sown by a river in its bed,
Alone it has importance without a hand to hold.
A flower bent in front of the mighty breeze,
As a form of respect to give it life.
And for the flowers that grow on trees,
They have a long journey before they decease.
A flower can be the reason of someone’s smile,
A flower can be something to slow my time.
The color of a floret brings emotions alive,
Making my heart thrive.
Alone this yellow flower stands upright,
By a stream, ripples making it alive.
With a tint of purity in the middle, white,
Solitary smiles at it, solitary is what it occupied.
The stream shimmers at the sun’s radiant light,
The flower’s head dancing.
Sometimes to the left sometimes to the right,
The wind is the beat and the birds sing.
The flower peeps its head,
Into the radiant rippling water of the stream.
Making it look a bit elongated and spread,
A different perspective for the flower it might seem,
Staring at its blurred figure,
It pokes its head out more seeming blissful with glee.
It found a companion and it looks as it shall prefer,
Rather to stand alone but by a company.
Down the stream a lazy log lay a float,
Without thinking twice between the two friends it flowed.
The yellow flower horrified at the sight it was shown,
Its early friend’s head and body not joined by the throat.
The lazy log shifted slowly,
The yellow flower was greeted with another sight.
This time of her early friend fully,
To her relief her friend was quite alright.
I am Anura Parida, a 12-year-old creative writer currently studying in the 8th grade. Ever since I can remember, words have been my closest companions, and poetry has become my heartfelt expression.
Through my writing, I explore the tapestry of emotions that color my world – from the joy of friendship to the contemplation of life's mysteries.
Besides being a writer, I am an avid reader, devouring classics and contemporary literature alike, which helps me expand my creative horizons.
Art, in all its forms, holds a special place in my heart, and I enjoy sketching and painting to complement my poetic musings. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to sharing this beautiful world of creative writing with you all!
