THE MYSTICAL MANGROVES

Anura Parida

Being in the jungle so vast and deep,

I am in a boat capturing the movement, safe to keep.

A jungle, which is fierce,

Clueless what secrets it bears.

Whenever I turn my head,

I see all green.

I see mangroves instead of flowerbeds,

Seeing this delight, it makes me beam.

Trees all high and short,

Protecting the animals hiding behind.

Their breathing      roots all out ready to grasp,

The one who wants to uproot others life, oh such pain!

Roars echoing in my ears,

Getting an opportunity once a few years.

From the green emerges the orange- black,

Standing out like the moon in the dark.

The air making the leaves dance,

The water making the view enhance.

The trees making music along with the waters,

The tunes boosted by the stampede of deer’s.

Nature can take you to a world away from cities,

It has its own ways to express.

Stuns you with a dozen tricks,

However, nothing can amaze you as the Sundarbans did to me, indeed.

Sreekumar's story, 'The Colour Rainbows Whisper', lured me in with the unusual title. Short and subtle, the story toys with the emotional ups and downs of a creative person. Conveyed with genuine feel, the story whispers like coloured rainbows, in unknown, or unexplored, tones of love and lust. The two poems in the Young Magic section are well written and full of the hopes and energy of the young. The first one by Anura Parida is about her first sight of the Sunderbans. The Magical Mangroves is indeed imbued with the magic of the feelings Nature instills in Man and the youngster has sharply captured the bond between Man and Nature. The second poem, by Trisha Sahoo, asks the question Who Am I? Again, Nature is the focus of the poem. The myriad facets of Nature are captured minutely and woven carefully into the poem to give it a rich feel. And finally, the young poet concluded with a sound advice, You need to find who you are. True, and writing is a wonderful way to find who you really are. Congratulations to all three writers and thanks for giving me a good read, L.V.
