Rangolis – Treat to the eyes and elevating to the heart.
Here is a collage of my sister Lalitha Raman's Rangolis done so beautifully during the month of Magha ( called Margazhi in Tamil a season that started on December 16th 2021 and ended on 14 th January 2022, just before advent of Pongal Day.
Every day of the month, she has spent around two hours to prepare these colourful and intricate Rangolis in her Pooja room. The thirty Rangolis you get to see in the collage are thirty days of work done with deep devotion and dedication.
She feels so blessed at the very satisfying outcome of the Rangolis and this is something very special to her as she experiences the divine vibration and peace of mind while getting involved in making this colourful artwork at the puja room while at the same time ,reciting Andal's Pasurams early morning each day. She says such experiences cannot be expressed in words.
Andal’s Pasurams are 30 short Tamil poems ( each Pasuram is a gem) called Tiruppavai composed by the child saint/Goddess Andal in praise of Lord Krishna, observing a 30 days vrata, composing one poem (pasuram) a day!
Normally such Rangolis are done at the door steps outside the house at the entrance but living in a Flat in Chennai, it was a challenge indeed this year for her restricting it to a very small circle at the puja room due to health constraints. Hence one must consider these as very special ones indeed surely with divine blessings.
From the 30 rangolis seen in the collage, there are 5 special ones and these are given separately to highlight their importance. They are as follows.
1.Beginning the month with a rangoli of Lord Ganesha (small one ) at the centre on New year day too with lord Ganesha
2.Siva lingam rangoli on Arudhra dharisanam day
3. Portrait of Andal with garland as dotted rangoli,
4. A rangoli of Gada(weapon of Lord Hanuman) on Hanumath Jayanthi and
5. Sahasradala Padma kamalam(1000 petals) kolam on Friday are the special ones among the 30 Rangolis given in the collage.
I am sure that connoisseurs of art and particularly those who are fans of Rangoli will find these creations a great treat to thier eyes.
Smt. Lalitha Raman is a commerce graduate residing at valachery, Chennai .She is a home maker with a passion for Rangoli and carnatic music. During the festival time of Navratri, she loves to display her Rangoli talents by drawing coloured kolams for each of the nine rathris...and during the magha ( in Tamil it is Margazhi Madam) she enjoys drawing intricate patterns of Rangoli in a great celebration of colours. This apart from singing Andal's Thiruppavai and Manicyavachagar's Thiruvembavai in apt carnatic ragas.
