Extending Facility Management Services  and earning income: Success Story of a few women from Metro Facility Management Team

Kudumbashree Facility Management centre started its journey by joining hands with the urban transport giant, ‘Kochi Metro Rail Limited’ as their very first client. Kudumbashree Mission was entrusted with services like ticketing, customer care, housekeeping and gardening.

Smt. Jisha, Smt. Joicy, Smt. Sheeja, Smt. Annie and Smt. Nisha started their career with ‘Kochi Metro’ during 2017 when Kudumbashree Mission was entrusted with the responsibility of facility management services. These five women were among the 780 staff who were selected through written exams and interview. Though most of these women are having only qualifications lesser than plus two, they were selected for housekeeping and gardening jobs. They were trained on highly sophisticated machine cleaning, quality standards and industrial cleaning.

Smt. Jisha who is in charge as the supervisor have the responsibility to head the team, monitor them closely so as to assure the cleanliness of the places. She takes the responsibility of managing the rooster of team and to make them work as a team.

Kudumbashree facility management is about to mark its third anniversary year in the service of Kochi metro and as of today, we were able to delight our customers by quality assured services. According to the Manager, Facility Management, the housekeeping services are managed on shift basis (Morning – Afternoon – Night), and it still managed in the same way as and required.

In the initial stages all faced difficulty in managing shifts. Many of the time they used to get offended from family due to their late night works. This has been changed since they became the bread winner for the family.

Most of the members were earning a less wage or almost nothing before taking this job. But now almost all members are generating a decent salary, which helping them to making a better living. They are now able to take care of their family and near one and able to spend money for providing good education for their children. This has made them proud enough about themselves. Also now people are showing them respect and they are very proud that they are working for such a well reputed firm. The lives of these five women are not the same years back. Today they are earning a decent salary in a well reputed organization “The Kochi Metro”.

It is the unity and confidence of the team members that made the facility management team a great success. They can be called as the epitome of self-confidence, passion, dedication and enthusiasm. The success story of this group of women can undoubtedly be considered an embodiment of women empowerment.
